Notice of Rulemaking Activity

At its meeting held on December 15, 2016, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing approved the removal of Chapter 40 under Title 46, Professional and Occupational Standards, Part XLVII. Chapter 40 refers to precautions that should be taken to prevent the transmission of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The Louisiana State Board of Nursing is expecting all nurses in the State of Louisiana to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for universal precautions, which is already common practice and prevents the transmission of HBV, HCV, and HIV.

The first step in the rulemaking process is the publication of the Board's Notice of Intent in the February edition of the Louisiana Register. As of February 20, 2017 you are able to access the publication free of charge at the state register's website at The Notice of Intent can be found here.

The Board requests to receive written comments on the proposed revisions by March 10, 2017.

Please direct all written communications regarding this proposal to my attention at the Board office.
