Notice of Rulemaking Activity

LSBN has been granted rulemaking authority in R.S. 37:918 to develop, adopt, and revise rules and regulations in the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act. At its meeting held on April 20, 2017, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing approved the proposed rule change to add language to Chapter 34, Section 3415.A-C, under Title 46, Professional and Occupational Standards, Part XLVII. The current Section allows a nurse whose license has been suspended or surrendered to apply to the board to have their license reinstated. This proposed Rule adds that a nurse whose license has been revoked may also apply to have their license reinstated by requesting a hearing.

The first step in the rulemaking process is the publication of the Board's Notice of Intent in the August edition of the Louisiana Register. As of August 20, 2017 you will be able to access the publication free of charge at the state register's website at The Notice of Intent can be found here.

The Board requests to receive written comments on the proposed revisions by September 10, 2017.

Please direct all written communications regarding this proposal to my attention at the Board office.
