BSN Faculty Exceptions (LAC 46:XLVII.3515.B.9)

At its meeting held on February 20, 2025, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing approved an amendment of Title 46, Professional and Occupational Standards, Part XLVII. Nurses: Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses, Subpart 2. Registered Nurses, Chapter 35, Section 3515, Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Education Degree Programs. The proposed change will set the percentage of Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) prepared nurses with at least two years of clinical nursing experience allowed to work as faculty exceptions in approved Louisiana schools of nursing to 40 percent.

The first step in the rulemaking process is the publication of the Board's Notice of Intent in the June 20, 2025, edition of the Louisiana Register. As of June 20, 2025, you will be able to access the publication free of charge at the state register's website at http://www.doa.la.gov/osr. The Notice of Intent can be found here.

The Board requests to receive comments on the proposed revisions by July 10, 2025. Please direct all written communication regarding this proposal to my attention at the Board office.

PICC Insertion and Removal (LAC 46:XLVII.3707)

At its meeting held on February 20, 2025, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing approved an amendment of under Title 46, Professional and Occupational Standards, Part XLVII. Nurses: Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses, Subpart 2. Registered Nurses, Chapter 37, Section 3707 Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Insertion and Removal. The proposed change will repeal all language pertaining to Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Insertion and Removal.

The first step in the rulemaking process is the publication of the Board's Notice of Intent in the June 20, 2025, edition of the Louisiana Register.
